In 2006, the Puerto Rico Pharmaceutical Cluster reached a historical agreement between Puerto Rico’s leading universities in Puerto Rico and industry representatives. The accord aims to foster scientific and technological collaboration between academia and the island’s pharmaceutical industry.
The agreement was signed during a ceremony held at Abbott’s Barceloneta plant in June was and was attended by top executives of Puerto Rico’s pharmaceutical Industry as well as presidents, deans and chancellors representing nine of Puerto Rico’s most prestigious universities. The participating academic institutions included three University of Puerto Rico campuses Rio Piedras, Mayaguez and Medical Sciences as well as the InterAmerican University in Bayamón, the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, the Turabo University in Caguas, the Metropolitan University in Río Piedras and the Ponce School of Medicine.
